MEDITATION A POWERFUL PRINCIPLE

Meditating isn’t a new idea or a fancy trend. It’s not even new age! Meditation is a biblical principle given to God’s people as a command!

Psalm 1:2 instructs that we should “meditate” on the law night and day! The command to meditate—to ponder, muse, or think over—was given to us by God as a way to focus our attention and improve our well-being.

Meditating in a safe, healthy way doesn’t involve postures or hand gestures; it simply means filling your mind with the best, not the worst—focusing on what’s beautiful, not what’s ugly.

SO HOW SHOULD I START??

Glad you asked! Sit with a trusted adult and ask how you can find the beautiful things God has said about you in the Word. That’s a great way to begin filling your mind with what is beautiful and worthy!

AND……

You can also focus on the good things you’ve been blessed with. Look around and find things to be grateful for, and spend a moment being thankful. Gratefulness is part of meditation because you’re filling your mind with what scripture calls the “Good Report.”

WHY IS THIS HELPFUL?

Meditation calms your brain and emotions by slowing racing and anxious thoughts. When you focus on positive, meaningful thoughts, your brain releases chemicals that help you feel calmer and more balanced. This can improve your focus and reduce anxiousness.

TIPS FOR SAFE MEDITATION

Think about things that make you feel safe and calm.

Spend 5 quiet minutes outside noticing beauty.

Humming is okay—choose uplifting songs (humming calms the nervous system).
